A Christmas Reunion: Lost Dog Reunited with His Owner After Two Months, Thanks to A.R.F.

This holiday season, a heartwarming reunion took place thousands of miles away from where it all began. Gojo, a 3-year-old dog who was surrendered to the Animal Rescue Foundation (A.R.F.) after being separated from his original owner, is finally returning home to California—thanks to a family’s determination and love.

Gojo’s journey took an unexpected turn when his original owner’s girlfriend moved away from California to Illinois, bringing Gojo along. After the girlfriend moved, she surrendered Gojo to A.R.F. in Wheaton, Illinois. The dog, who had juvenile cataracts and vision issues, was posted on Petfinder, as is customary for all of A.R.F.’s adoptable pets.

Enter Justin, a young man from California who had been missing his beloved dog since they were separated. Justin’s uncle, knowing how much Justin missed Gojo, decided to search for a dog that could help fill the void. While browsing Petfinder, he stumbled across a listing for a dog named Gojo—and immediately recognized him.

Without hesitation, Justin’s uncle reached out to A.R.F. to confirm the dog’s identity. After receiving pictures and proof that this was indeed Justin’s dog, A.R.F. worked with them to arrange the reunion. Justin’s family, with the help of the generous uncle, covered the cost of transporting Gojo back to California. To ensure a smooth and safe journey, Gojo was accompanied by a pet nanny from Pet Commuter, a pet travel service.

“We’re so grateful to be a part of this incredible reunion,” said A.R.F. Executive Director Ann Persenaire. “Gojo has been through so much, and we’re thrilled to be able to send him back to his family, where he belongs.”

Gojo’s story highlights not only the importance of rescue organizations like A.R.F., but also the power of community and love for animals. From a chance connection through Petfinder to a dedicated family member willing to do whatever it takes to bring Gojo home, this heartwarming tale serves as a reminder of the bonds that form between people and their pets—no matter the distance.

Now, A.R.F. is celebrating the joy of being able to help reunite families, especially during the holiday season. For more information on A.R.F.’s work or to support their mission, please visit arf-il.org.
