Meet Shirley and Laverne (bonded pair)
Laverne & Shirley: Bonded Calico Sisters (about 5 months old)
Two calico sisters, one package deal. Like their TV namesakes, these girls do everything together, and they're ready to bring the laughs (and a little chaos) to your home.
Shirley is the charmer. She's chatty, engaging, and always up for a conversation. She loves being picked up and will happily tell you all about her day.
Laverne is the cautious one. She takes her time to warm up, and she's worth the wait. Once she trusts you, expect belly rubs and head scratches on demand. She's still friendly and food motivated, she just likes to size you up first. Her sister makes her braver, which is why they must stay together.
Playtime:
At 5 months, these girls are in peak kitten mode. Expect zoomies, pouncing, and wrestling matches that end in a nap pile. Their favorite motivator is food, so treat puzzles, treat balls, and wand toys that end in a snack are a big hit.
Shirley will bring you into the game. Dangle a toy and she'll make it a conversation. Laverne joins in from the sidelines at first. Toss a toy or treat a few feet away and let her come to you. Wand toys are a great way to build trust without crowding her. Two 10 to 15 minute play sessions a day will keep them happy and tire them out before bedtime. Rotate toys, and add a cat tree or window perch so they can climb and watch the world.
Life with Two Kittens:
Start small. Give them a quiet room for the first few days with food, water, litter, and a hiding spot, then expand the territory as they get comfortable. Let Laverne lead. Sit on the floor, let her come to you, and use treats to build trust. Don't force pickups or petting.
Double up. Give them two litter boxes, two water spots, and plenty of scratchers and toys so there's never a fight over resources.
Use mealtime. Because they're food motivated, feeding on a schedule is the easiest way to build routine and connection.
Kitten-proof. Tuck away cords, toxic plants, and string. Kittens this age will test everything.
Expect a nap pile. They'll sleep best together, so a cozy bed or blanket in a favorite spot goes a long way.

If a cat or dog is on our website, it is still available for adoption but might have other applicants. If you find yourself interested in one of our animals, submit a no-commitment application immediately. Submitting an application does not commit you to any animal, but does get you a head start with the adoption approval process. Due to a high volume of applications, we are often unable to respond to questions until your application has been approved in approximately 3-5 business days.
We do not schedule meetings until you have an approved application.
A.R.F.-Animal Rescue Foundation does not have a facility where applicants can visit all of our animals. The majority of our dogs and cats are brought to adoption events by our volunteers. We invite everyone to come to our events, but we give priority to pre-approved applicants.
If you’re invited to meet an animal:
- Plan to arrive early, as we cannot hold animals for any reason.
- All human household members and dogs (if adopting another dog), must be present in order to be considered as a potential adopter.
Thank you for your interest and cooperation!
