Animal Rescue Foundation – IL (ARF) is a NO-kill, non-profit animal rescue organization established in 1985. We are an all volunteer based group dedicated to finding loving homes for the abandoned, and abused animals of our community. Animals waiting for adoption are in temporary care homes licensed by the state of Illinois. ARF frequently will take in the animals that other rescue group will not because the animal needs additional medical attention. This is part of our philosophy in rescue. We rescue healthy animals and adopt them out to loving homes in order to have the funding available to help the ones that are not so perfect. You’ll witness our dedication to the no so perfect animals when you see a dog listed on our website who was given a second chance in life by having his badly injured leg amputated or his heartworm disease treated or a kitten who would not survive unless it had a great deal of medical attention. This philosophy also means the animal will need to spend additional time in a temporary care home and fortunately we have great volunteers who are willing to take this extra time for the animal.
ARF receives NO government funding. Private donations, as well as adoption fees, keep ARF prepared to help animals in need. ARF is a registered 501(c)(3) non-profit organization in the United States so any donation you make may be tax deductible. Because ARF is a strictly volunteer based group we are always in need of additional dedicated volunteers. In particular, we need people who will open their homes to an abandoned puppy, dog, cat or kitten and provide them with the TLC they need until they get to their forever home; ARF provides the rest!
If you are interested in becoming an ARF Volunteer, please see our page on Volunteering or contact ARF today! Once you meet our volunteers you will quickly realize that ARF is more than just a group of volunteers, we are a family working toward the same goal – giving animals a second chance in life.
Our mission statement
Animal Rescue Foundation – IL (ARF) is a NO-kill, volunteer based, non-profit organization, dedicated to enriching the lives of animals that society has abandoned, rejected, and neglected. We do this through promoting responsible pet ownership.
How We Are Making a Difference
- ARF was incorporated in 1985 with a small, but dedicated group of volunteers with hopes of doing whatever they could to help animals.
- In 2008, ARF began housing our cats at PetSmart in Wheaton.
- In 2009, ARF spayed or neutered over 800 dogs/cats in the Chicagoland area, primarily in the Western Suburbs. As a No-Kill, all volunteer, non-profit organization, ARF partners with Wheaton Animal Hospital to ensure all animals are altered.
- In 2012, The Spotted Paw in Wheaton and VCA Naper Ridge Animal Hospital in Naperville became additional locations where adopters can meet available ARF cats and dogs!
ARF is very proud to be an active part of our community. By maintaining memberships with both the Wheaton and Glen Ellyn Chambers of Commerce we are working hard to bring awareness to the challenges the abandoned and unwanted animals face. We are equally as proud to accomplish all we do with a limited number of volunteers while remaining an all foster home based group. The foster home based environment allows for our animals to receive the 24 hours a day, 7 days a week care they deserve and exposes them to training they may need to make them a better pet once adopted.
We have no facility and receive no government funding.
